Hindiston, Nepal, Pokiston va Shri - Lankada keng tarqalgan. Suv sathidan 2000 metr balandlikdagi chakalakzorlar va urmonzorlarda yashaydi. Vazni 3 - 7 kg, dum uzunligi 1,3 m.gacha. Uyasini yerga quradi. 4 - 7 tadan tuxum qo‘yadi. Oddiy tovuslar uch yoshida balog‘atga yetadi va o‘ziga xos dumqa ega bo‘ladi. O‘simlik ozuqalari bilan oziqlanadi. Kamdan - kam holatlarda mayda hayvonlarni eydi. 20 yil yashaydi.

Распространен в Индии, Непале, Пакистане и на Шри - Ланке. Живет в джунглях и лесистой местности до 2000м над ур.м. Вес – 3 - 7 кг, длина перьев над хвостом до 1,3 м. Гнезда устраивает на земле. В кладке – 4 - 7 яиц. Половозрелость и появление великолепного хвоста у самцов наступает в трехлетнем возрасте. Питается растительной пищей, изредка может поедать мелких животных. Живет 20 лет.

It is found in India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. It lives in jungles and forested areas at elevations up to 2,000 m above sea level. It weighs between 3 and 7 kg, and the feathers above its tail can reach a length of up to 1.3 m. It nests on the ground, with a clutch of 4 – 7 eggs. Sexual maturity and the development of the magnificent tail in males occur at about 3 years of age. Its diet is primarily plant - based, though it occasionally eats small animals. Its lifespan is around 20 years.
